Nigeria international Victor Osimhen has moved to calm growing transfer speculation after comments by national team coach Eric Chelle triggered reports linking the striker with a potential move away from Galatasaray.
The controversy began after Chelle suggested that Osimhen missed upcoming international friendlies against Poland on June 3 and Portugal on June 10 due to concerns over his physical condition and the possibility of a club transfer. The remarks quickly fueled rumours that the prolific forward could be on the move, with Premier League sides Manchester United and Chelsea among those reportedly interested.
However, Osimhen has publicly rejected those claims, saying his coach’s comments were “taken out of context.” In a statement posted on Instagram, the 25-year-old striker stressed that there is no ongoing transfer negotiation and reaffirmed his commitment to his current club.
“I have great respect for my coach and for my club,” Osimhen wrote. “People should not twist words or create unnecessary stories. I am focused and happy where I am.”
Osimhen enjoyed a standout debut season at Galatasaray, scoring 26 goals and quickly becoming a fan favourite in Istanbul. His form naturally attracted attention from Europe’s top clubs, but sources close to the player say there have been no formal offers.
A person familiar with the situation, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Osimhen remains under contract with Galatasaray until 2029 and has no immediate plans to leave. “There is nothing on the table. He is staying,” the source said.
Chelle’s initial remarks were widely interpreted as an indication that a transfer could be imminent, especially given the timing ahead of the summer window. But the coach has not publicly elaborated further on his comments.
