Nigerian Afrobeats star Asake has set new streaming benchmarks with his latest project M$NEY, which has surpassed 248 million streams on Spotify globally just one month after its release, according to platform data tracking music performance worldwide.
Released on May 1 under Giran Republic and Empire, the 13-track album has quickly become one of the most commercially successful African music projects of the year. It also recorded an impressive 55.98 million streams in its opening week, marking the biggest debut week ever for an African album on Spotify.
The album features high-profile collaborations with international and continental artists, including DJ Snake, Tiakola, and Kabza De Small. The blend of Afrobeats, amapiano, and global electronic influences has been widely credited with helping the project reach audiences beyond Africa’s traditional streaming markets.
Several tracks have emerged as fan favourites, with songs such as “Gratitude” and “Forgiveness” each approaching or surpassing 20 million streams individually. The consistency of high-performing tracks across the album has contributed to its sustained dominance on global playlists.
On Apple Music Nigeria, M$NEY has maintained the No. 1 album position for 31 consecutive days, highlighting its strong domestic reception alongside international success.
Industry observers say the album’s performance reflects the growing global appetite for Afrobeats and its fusion with other genres. The rollout strategy, combined with Asake’s distinctive sound and visual branding, has also been credited for sustaining momentum beyond the initial release window.
Adding to the celebration, Asake’s longtime mentor and YBNL boss Olamide reacted to the milestone on social media, posting fire emojis in support of the success of “Gratitude,” one of the album’s standout tracks. Fans have since joined the conversation online, sharing personal rankings and anniversary-style posts praising the project’s impact.
With M$NEY continuing to dominate streaming charts and playlists, analysts suggest the album could remain a defining release in 2026’s global Afrobeats landscape, further strengthening Asake’s position as one of the genre’s most influential modern voices.
