A public dispute has erupted between Nigerian comedian and streamer Carter Efe and his longtime collaborator Kolu, with both sides trading accusations over money, transparency, and loyalty following their joint creative successes. The disagreement, which began on Monday, quickly escalated across livestreams and social media, drawing widespread attention from fans.
Kolu first raised concerns publicly, alleging that he had been sidelined financially despite contributing to popular comedy skits, hit content like “Who Be That?”, and their Twitch streaming ventures. He suggested that the revenue from their collaborations had not been shared fairly, fueling speculation about internal tensions within their creative partnership.
Carter Efe responded a day later during a series of livestreams, presenting what he described as proof of financial support. He displayed transaction records from the OPay app, claiming to have sent Kolu over ₦2.4 million in recent weeks. According to Carter, this included ₦1 million transferred last week, ₦600,000 two days prior, and another ₦800,000 just a day before his broadcast.
However, Carter framed the payments not as formal revenue sharing but as personal assistance, accusing Kolu of mismanaging the funds. He alleged that the money had been spent on “bad habits” and an ill-advised car purchase, an ₦8 million Honda that, he claimed, later required ₦15 million in repairs.
Kolu swiftly rejected Carter’s claims, describing them as misleading and dismissive. In his response, he insisted that the funds were not acts of generosity but his rightful share of earnings from their joint work. “That money is not help, it’s what I worked for,” he said in a counter statement, accusing Carter of attempting to control the narrative.
The dispute has since divided their fan base. While some supporters praised Carter for documenting his financial contributions, others questioned the lack of clear agreements within the partnership and called for more transparent revenue splits. “This is why creatives need contracts,” one fan commented online, echoing a sentiment that has gained traction amid the controversy.
The clash also revives memories of earlier tensions between the duo, including a widely discussed disagreement in 2025 over how to share proceeds linked to a gift from music star Davido. That incident, though eventually subdued, appears to have left unresolved issues that are now resurfacing in a more public and confrontational manner.
As of now, neither party has indicated a willingness to reconcile publicly. The situation highlights broader challenges in Nigeria’s fast-growing digital entertainment scene, where informal collaborations often blur the lines between friendship and business.
Whether this dispute leads to a permanent split or a negotiated resolution remains unclear, but for now, it serves as a cautionary tale about the risks of mixing creative partnerships with unclear financial arrangements in an increasingly lucrative industry.
“Kolu came online and said I don’t give him money. He used all his investments to buy a car that’s now giving him problems. Last week I gave him ₦1 million, 2 days ago ₦600k, and yesterday ₦800k. He’ll be giving girls his money, but when he’s hungry he’ll come running back.… pic.twitter.com/McUyU5ysMX
