Osun Accord Party Chairman Survives Shooting in Osogbo as Police Launch Investigation

By Admin June 4, 2026 9 Views

The Chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State has survived a shooting attack after armed men opened fire on his vehicle late Wednesday night, police and party sources confirmed. The incident occurred at about 9:50 p.m. while he was driving with friends in Osogbo.

According to early reports, the chairman sustained gunshot injuries during the attack but managed to escape from the scene and sought help at a nearby police station. He was immediately rushed by officers to the University of Osun Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed he is in stable condition and responding to treatment.

Security operatives have since launched a full-scale investigation into the incident. Police said they are reviewing available evidence from the scene and have deployed tactical teams to track down the suspected attackers. No arrests have been made at the time of filing this report.

The attack has further heightened political tension in Osun State, where preparations are already building toward the August 2026 governorship election. The contest is expected to be closely fought between the ruling camp of Governor Ademola Adeleke and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), with political stakeholders warning about the risk of violence if tensions are not managed.

In a strongly worded reaction, Nigerian music star Davido condemned the attack and called for restraint across political lines.

“Regardless of our political differences, everyone must make sure they are not contributing to insecurity in our nation. The attack on the Chairman of Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government by political hoodlums must be condemned and rejected by all. If APC is sure they are popular, let’s settle this with ballot papers, not guns or weapons,” he said.

While authorities continue their investigation, residents in Osogbo have expressed concern over the resurgence of politically linked violence in the state, urging security agencies to intensify surveillance ahead of the election season.

Police authorities are expected to release further updates as the investigation progresses, while political leaders across party lines continue to call for calm and non-violence.
