A popular Nigerian content creator known as Peller stepped into a tense accident scene in Lagos on Tuesday evening after his associate, Smart BM, was involved in a multi-vehicle crash that left several cars damaged and at least one person injured.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. in the Ojogbori area, where witnesses said Smart BM’s Mercedes-Benz GLE collided with at least four vehicles, including Toyota Corollas and a ride-hailing car. The impact caused visible dents and quickly drew a crowd, with affected drivers demanding compensation reportedly running into millions of naira.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as tensions rose between the car owners and those linked to the crash. “People were shouting and trying to get answers immediately,” one bystander said. “The damage was serious, and everyone wanted accountability.”
Peller arrived shortly after, holding a microphone, an unusual detail that underscored his status as a public-facing personality. He was seen checking on Smart BM, who is believed to be around 20 years old and escaped the crash without injuries. He then turned his attention to the aggrieved drivers and onlookers, attempting to calm the situation.
In a move that appeared to defuse the escalating confrontation, Peller publicly pledged to cover damages, offering ₦5 million to affected parties and promising to take care of hospital bills for an injured boy and his family. Witnesses said his intervention helped reduce tensions, though negotiations over the exact extent of damages were still ongoing at the scene.
Some of those involved expressed cautious relief. “At least someone is taking responsibility,” one driver said. “But we will still assess the full cost of repairs.”
The incident has since sparked conversations online, particularly around the growing culture of content creation and the risks associated with high-end lifestyles often displayed on social media. While many fans praised Peller for standing by his friend and taking swift responsibility, others warned against what they described as reckless driving linked to the pressure of creating viral content.
Road safety advocates say the episode highlights a broader issue. “Influencers have a responsibility, especially when their actions are seen by thousands,” a Lagos-based transport analyst noted. “There must be a balance between content and public safety.”
As discussions continue, the accident adds to ongoing concerns about urban road safety in Lagos, where traffic congestion and high vehicle density often increase the risk of multi-car collisions. Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident.
For now, attention remains on whether the promised compensation will fully cover the damages, and whether the episode will prompt greater caution among Nigeria’s fast-growing community of digital creators.
