Former presidential aide and social commentator Reno Omokri has publicly criticised Nigerian music star Davido for using his platform at the FIFA World Cup to call attention to the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, arguing that such global exposure could inadvertently benefit kidnappers.
In a statement that has sparked debate across social media, Omokri acknowledged Davido’s intentions as well-meaning but cautioned against amplifying kidnapping cases on international stages. “Publicity is the oxygen of terrorism,” he said, suggesting that heightened visibility can embolden perpetrators, spread fear, and increase the perceived value of hostages.
Davido, one of Nigeria’s most influential global artists, had used his appearance linked to World Cup-related events to advocate for the safe return of the victims.
